Portland Multi-Faith Centre

Year 5, University of Nottingham
Location: Portland Building, University of Nottingham

The Brief sees the design of a multi-faith centre in one of University of Nottingham's iconic buildings. This is the first proposed multi-fatih centre located on the campus.

Working in a group of three, we wanted to ensure the multi-faith centre is able to cater to people of different faiths, including those with no religion, and to those who seek a place to improve their well-being. Key design aims that factored strongly into the design decisions made include understanding one's own faith in relation to others', creating faith-neutral spaces with a design aesthetic that is universally embraced as a sanctuary and retreat for all, creating elements that allow all faith groups to adapt space quickly in order to suit particular needs, and creating a uniquely versatile venue that makes users of all faiths feel equally welcomed and valued.
