Identifying Identity
Thesis Declaration Drawings (part of the Thesis Research Document)

Year 6, University of Nottingham

The Thesis Research document (TRD) investigated consequences, and whether it is required for one to shed their identity in order to develop if one belongs to a ‘weaker’ social group in society. Looking primarily into the work of Pierre Bordieu, the conclusion that the TRD arrived to is: None. None of the objective factors that makes one’s identity should be changed. One’s past experiences, upbringing, family cannot simply be shed or forgotten. It is the subjective view on one's objective identity that should be changed. For instance, if one has been brought up in a broken family, it is not the case of trying to change the fact that he was, but making sure that he has the opportunity and knowledge in life to be able to strive for a healthy relationship for himself despite of it.

Disciplines such as architects, designers and urban planners carry the responsibility of design in a way that lifts the restrictions on opportunities placed upon any group in society. In doing so will bring promise to a better, healthier and a more satisfied community.
